Important ideas and learning from your classmates?

Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 are two very different books that myself have never read before, at many times I have gotten confused as to where my place was in the book, like understanding certain parts or certain words that I have never seen before. Using the blogs and keeping up to date with posts that allowed be to express to my own questions as well as my fellow classmates, helped me a lot. Being able to almost connect with my classmates didn't make me feel alone, I felt as though I wasn't the only one who had a question on a certain part and a certain misunderstanding somewhere in the book. Many of the thought questions that Mr. Miller had prepared for us I came a across with a little bit of a struggle. I didn't really realize that after answering the question, that it then became actually a big part in the book. Questions like this helped me understand the story more and it expanded my mind by actually taking a second to think about what the question meant. For example one of the questions I came across was about the Mechanical Hounds, in all honesty I really didn't think that knowing what they were was that important, until later on in the book I came across the same part dealing with the Mechanical hounds. So knowing and understanding little parts in the book can really turn out to be huge parts that are going to take place throughout the entire novel. Before even beginning to read this book when Mr. Miller first told us that the book would be about a dystopia, I had absolutely no idea what the word even meant or that it even existed. As one of our blogs we were able to discuss and talk about what a Dysopia meant to us, this helped me a lot because I was allowed to elaborate off of my classmates responses. If I didn't understand what dystopia was then I would have been very confused after reading my book. I enjoyed very much doing the blogs, it became a necessity to me overtime because if I found my self getting confused in certain parts inthe book. The blogs allowed me to respond to my own thoughts and see if my classmates could relate or help me out. In the future I would highly recommend blogging to be kept up with Mr. Miller's future English classes.
