Important ideas and learning from your classmates?

Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 are two very different books that myself have never read before, at many times I have gotten confused as to where my place was in the book, like understanding certain parts or certain words that I have never seen before. Using the blogs and keeping up to date with posts that allowed be to express to my own questions as well as my fellow classmates, helped me a lot. Being able to almost connect with my classmates didn't make me feel alone, I felt as though I wasn't the only one who had a question on a certain part and a certain misunderstanding somewhere in the book. Many of the thought questions that Mr. Miller had prepared for us I came a across with a little bit of a struggle. I didn't really realize that after answering the question, that it then became actually a big part in the book. Questions like this helped me understand the story more and it expanded my mind by actually taking a second to think about what the question meant. For example one of the questions I came across was about the Mechanical Hounds, in all honesty I really didn't think that knowing what they were was that important, until later on in the book I came across the same part dealing with the Mechanical hounds. So knowing and understanding little parts in the book can really turn out to be huge parts that are going to take place throughout the entire novel. Before even beginning to read this book when Mr. Miller first told us that the book would be about a dystopia, I had absolutely no idea what the word even meant or that it even existed. As one of our blogs we were able to discuss and talk about what a Dysopia meant to us, this helped me a lot because I was allowed to elaborate off of my classmates responses. If I didn't understand what dystopia was then I would have been very confused after reading my book. I enjoyed very much doing the blogs, it became a necessity to me overtime because if I found my self getting confused in certain parts inthe book. The blogs allowed me to respond to my own thoughts and see if my classmates could relate or help me out. In the future I would highly recommend blogging to be kept up with Mr. Miller's future English classes.

Paralles between the worl of the novel and our world?

Out world today and Fahrenheit 451's world are two very different worlds. Many things are pointed out in this novel that show how much more UN-real their world is than ours. In our world Firemen are referred to as rescuers that save people or things in fires, in Fahrenheit 451 firemen burn books over and over again, to stop people from reading them. Which destroys the information that people are provided with in our world today. Clarisse one of the main characters that Montag met in the beginning of the story opened up his world to a bigger picture, making him see bigger and better things beyond what he was told. By being the person Clarisse is she was referred to as sentimental and self righteous, in our world being curious and positive towards life is a very good thing, its an instinct that most people should be proud of having. All of the unhappy things in Fahrenheit 451 include TVs, books, and sterile bedrooms these things were things that were suppose to make them unhappy. Burning these objects was always a demand for the firemen to destroy, without these things in our world people would probably be lost. Unhappy to our world s not having these things, trying to connect our world and the world in the novel is almost impossible. For Montag coming across all the things he has been told was coming from Beatty, that everything was always bad and will harm people in so many ways, he wasn't right and inside Montag knew this. If things like teenagers drinking recklessly while driving is a bad thing, then immediately everything else around them is a threat and it is a bad thing. These are the views that were given from the novel. In our world many things are bad, but much good can come from the bad, like making things better, improving what needs to be fixed. Destroying everything isn't the answer in our world today.

WARNINGS THE AUTHOR IS TRYING TO GET ACROSS?

After I have read Fahrenheit 451 I have realized that the author Ray Bradbury was trying to explain to the readers that two worlds have been evolved. One world where Montag and Mildred only know what they have been told, and another world where Faber knows all kinds of information and feeling on the world. I feel as though in Montags world being a fire fighter was to burn books and thats only what he has been told all his life, so he does what he is told, but after realizing the mistakes he has made he wants more out of life, an explanation. Millie is always stuck inside of her house and believes the walls are almost like her friends. The author here is trying to expand on two worlds and allow Faber to teach Montag more about his life and how much more he should be living his life up to. Mildred comes across a horrible thing that she faces and that's her obsession will her pills, Montag realizes that burning books is not what he wants to do. Montag would rather learn from Faber and read the books, to enjoy what life has to offer. Montag had said that after all of ten years of burning books a way he can make up for his mistakes is to read the books for answers and that might help him understand why he burned them. Faber is a man who is filled with knowledge, he lets Montag know what life has to offer and what the he is missing, this makes Montag want to know more about his own life that he is living. For example "along with quality of information, and the leisure time to think about that information, is freedom for people to act on the conclusions they come to." Faber feels the world is missing information because the books have been burned but not only that, its the freedom of the people to read the books. Montag has such an urge to change the world he is living in, but he is still trying to piece together things that he doesn't understand in order to make things right. Overall this novel is a dystopia one that is determined to be changed by the people living in it.

What's to come of Farenheit 451?

I just read Melissa's blog and I agree with what she has posted about why does know one in Fahrenheit 451 think for themselves. The entire book so far is all played out by rules and certain things that must be done, for example the fire fighters like Montag himself must burn all the books and know one is allowed to read any of them. I really will have to agree with Melissa on this one that Clarisse is the reason for Montage's expanded mind and him actually trying to see beyond this world he has been living in with Mildred. I am really interested to see what the end story will have for Montag and Mildred as to what will be doing in the near future. http://melissasper6english10.blogspot.com/2007/05/unable-to-think.html

http://englishwithjordan.blogspot.com/2007/05/as-i-look-at-fellow-classmates-posts-i.html

I read Jordans post about Farenheit 451, I agree with a lot of things she has mentioned in her blog. In the book Clarrise is the beginning shows no fear towards Montag and is very open to all of his conversations, I agree with jordan when she says I wondered why Clarisse wasn't frightened at all. In my opinon Clarisse should be scared becuase when she first meant Montag she had no idea who he was or where is came from. So I would be a little hesitant as to what I was saying. Also none of the characters in the book seem to suspect anything on Clarisse if she says something odd, everyone like Montag and Mildred just assume that she is someone who is a little clueless to certain things in the world. I am very curious to know what the outcome of Clarisse is going to be when the book starts to winde down and come to an end. In Jordans blog she makes a very good point as to how Clarisse's entire personality is in the book.

Why the jets flew over?

The author has the jets fly over at the same time becuase the jets are loud and make a lot a noise, usually when you think of jets they are very distracting and its hard to keep focus on one thing when you have this huge distraction coming across and distrubting you. Montag was just going through how he realized his wife was taking the sleeping pills which is a very sad thing to discover about someones wife. If Iwere in montag's postion I would be very upset and hurt by this situation if I were to be in Montag's shoes. The jets can kind of make a connection to Montag by showing how Montag feels, he is confused and has a lot of things going on at once. This is like the jets becuae of the comotion that the jets make, I think the jets were just a comparrision in the book to let the reader know how disturbing it was for Montag to find out that his wife was taking these sleeping pills and how ashamed he is to find out she did really overdose, and to know that she is going to deny the situation makes the situation a lot more worse for Montag. So basically the jets flying over, is relation that was made between Montag and the problems he has to face ahead.

Is online bloggin safe?

A young girl in chicago was posting on her blog certain critics on gay marriage and blacks, the girl was later defended by "freedom of speech" but then got introuble for posting certain things that may have offended people at her school. This is an example of watching what you are going to post on the internet becuase as we say again anyone is open to reading your blog, anyone can take what you post as an offense. The dangers on this is is someone takes what someone else says personal then the situation can get out of hand, by this i mean the person reading the blog could find out where and who was posting the blog becuase they didn't agree in what that person was posting. Some dangers on blog posting on school would be finding out very easily who is writing the blog, people and students anywhere need to watch certain things that they say in there blog becuae some kids don't realize that as they are writing they may be including some personal information on themselves and not even realizing it. Teachers need to really teach there students how to use blogs the correct way or things could get very dangers if someone does not know how to be mature about posting certain information online. A lot of things are common sense, not to put your phone number or especially post your last name on any blog. Know one wants anyone to get hurt, these blogs are to help students and teacher learn more about themsleves and others.
